A Taree First - Weight Loss Surgery at Mayo Private Hospital

Associate Professor Garett Smith, Leading laparoscopic General Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon is the first surgeon to perform Bariatric Surgery at Mayo Private Hospital, Taree.

This week, seven patients underwent a sleeve gastrectomy; a weight loss surgery that has not previously been offered in the Manning Great Lakes area before now.

"We are proud to be able to bring such an experienced surgeon to the area to work with our team.

Not only is the service being offered locally, removing the need for patients to travel, it is also part of the Australian-first initiative - Self Pay Surgery - meaning the service is offered to uninsured patients at a very competitive rate, with flexible payment options and no wait time" says Ben Uprichard, Regional Chief Executive Officer Mayo Private and Forster Private Hospitals.

"For patients undergoing bariatric surgery, the results are often life-transforming. I’m really excited to start working with the teams at both hospitals and to be providing this service for the communities on the Mid North Coast” says Associate Professor Smith.

A/Prof Garett welcomes new referrals from GPs at the Mayo Specialist Centre and Forster Private Hospital. To find out more book an appointment with your General Practitioner who can arrange a referral.
