Dr Richard Allom

Specialties

  • Orthopaedic Surgery

Dr Allom is an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon with a subspecialist interest in surgery of the knee. He is a Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS). He has been awarded numerous prizes and distinctions during training and has held Consultant posts at a general hospital in rural southwest England and King’s College Hospital, a major trauma centre in London.

Originally from England, he fell in love with Australia and its people whilst undertaking a one-year Trauma Fellowship in Sydney. Having spent some time as a consultant in the UK, he returned to Australia to raise his young family.

Whilst working in Sydney to gain FRACS, he was fortunate to be mentored by internationally recognised experts at the forefront of soft tissue knee surgery and lower limb arthroplasty, his areas of subspecialist interest. He is happy to call these colleagues my friends.

He has published in peer-reviewed journals throughout his career. His research has spanned the breadth of orthopaedics, including anatomy and basic science; surgical technique; patient-reported outcome tools; ACL reconstruction; and robotics and kinematic alignment in total knee arthroplasty.

He is invested in future generations of doctors. He has been invited by faculty to higher surgical training courses, and an OSCE examiner for medical students at both the University of London and Western Sydney University. He continues to mentor, teach and examine orthopaedic surgical trainees.
