Dr Zay Htet Specialist Nephrologist & General Medicine Physician Consulting at Mayo Private Hospital & Forster Private Hospital

Dr Zay Htet is a highly experienced nephrologist and general medicine physician currently practicing at Manning Base Hospital within the Hunter New England Local Health District. He also offers private consultations at Mayo and Forster Private Hospitals, providing expert care across a broad spectrum of kidney and general medical conditions.
Dr Htet earned his medical degree in Yangon, Myanmar, and pursued postgraduate clinical training in Singapore and the United Kingdom. He completed his advanced specialist training in nephrology and general internal medicine at Cambridge and Norwich University Hospitals, UK. Prior to relocating to Australia in 2025, he served as a consultant nephrologist at the renowned King’s College Hospital Renal Unit in London.
His clinical expertise encompasses:

• Dialysis care and management
• Transplant workups for both deceased and living donors
• Nephrology procedures including temporary and permanent tunnelled dialysis catheter insertions, native and transplant kidney biopsies
Dr Htet is also deeply committed to leadership and quality improvement. He has held several senior roles in the NHS, including Outpatient Clinical Transformation Lead, Quality Improvement and Audit Lead, and Mortality Lead. These roles reflect his dedication to enhancing team performance, fostering interprofessional collaboration, and improving patient outcomes.
In addition to his clinical and leadership roles, Dr Htet is passionate about medical education and mentorship. He has served as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at King’s College School of Medicine and was an accredited Educational and Clinical Supervisor with the UK General Medical Council. He has contributed to postgraduate training as a Regional Physicians Advisor and Lead Examiner for MRCP PACES exams with the Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow), and is currently recognised as an Educational Supervisor by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).
Dr Htet is a strong advocate for evidence-based medicine and continuous quality improvement. He has participated in national clinical trials and has a robust portfolio of peer-reviewed publications. He actively supports trainee-led quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with institutional QI teams.
