Fees and Accounts
We accept patients with insurance from most private health funds, uninsured self-funded patients, Department of Veterans' Affairs recipients, or patients with approved Traffic Accident Commission (TAC) and Workers Compensation entitlements.
Private Health Insurance
Mayo Private Hospital has contracts with the majority of private health insurance funds. Before admission, we will verify your fund details.
If your private health insurance does not fully cover your stay, we will let you know your estimated out-of-pocket expenses. You will need to pay this before admission.
You are not required to pay the portion of your account covered by your private health fund. We will claim those benefits on your behalf. As part of our policy on informed financial consent, we will give you an estimate of your expenses and a form to sign.
Uninsured Self-Funded Patients
If you an uninsured, self-funded patient, you will need to pay a deposit based on an estimated length of stay of at least one week in advance. We will give you more information about this as part of the admission process.
Department of Veterans' Affairs Patients
Mayo Private Hospital is a Tier 1 provider for the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA).
DVA patients will have their account sent directly to the DVA for payment. DVA patients are responsible for calls made to mobile, long distance (STD) and international (ISD) numbers. Local calls are free.
See DVA Admissions for information about services at Mayo Private Hospital for DVA patients.
Workers Compensation
Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and Workers Compensation patients need to make arrangements to have their claim approved prior to admission. You must have your claim approved before admission and your insurer will receive your account to pay us directly.
Other Charges
After you leave hospital, you may receive bills for other charges incurred during your stay that are not the responsibility of the hospital. They are therefore charged separately, and may include fees relating to:
- Your treating doctor
- Anaesthesia
- Pathology
- Radiology
- Pharmacy
- Telephone calls to mobile, long distance (STD) and international (ISD) numbers
